For those unfamiliar with the game, Chain Guardians is an upcoming anime and cryptocurrency/blockchain inspired turn based strategy game. Though it is a crypto inspired game, for the most part it looks and plays like a traditional game. I will be going into more detail than that in an upcoming article.
Today I wanted to begin introducing the characters, as I believe the setting is where the game will truly shine. The first character which was made available to players was Captain Devex Attazer.
We haven’t had much background information released about him yet, but he is a space pirate. He makes it easier for people to travel between the different cryptoverse planets and he’s an excellent miner. Owning a captain makes it easier to earn in game currency. In fact, we were told that having a captain will allow us to assemble our own fleet of players in the future to improve our odds of successfully mining.

From a game play perspective, every character is associated with specific elements, and fitting for a captain like himself, Devex utilizes water and air. His rarity is uncommon, and its strictly limited by the blockchain aspect of the game. Due to the limited quantity of captains available, he is extra powerful compared to the various soldiers you would normally use. Unfortunately this also means without buying him from a secondary market like opensea, fewer players will ever get to own him.

To put his power into perspective, above you can see a sample Lieutenant and Soldier. The Lieutenant is a common unique unit which is capable of gaining experience. It will be possible to save them to the blockchain, but not required. The Lieutenant has a power rating of 15/100. The soldier is a disposable unit. It is unable to gain levels, and can die, but has better stats than a starting unit. Since it is disposable, and costs 1 CGC (in game currency) to replace, it does not have a power rating associated with it.

Comparing the captain with the Lieutenant and soldier above you can see that the captain has a much higher power rating of 78/100 and its individual stats can get fairly high.
I hope you enjoyed this teaser of what’s to come. You can expect several more “Meet the Guardians” articles to follow as well as an official game review of the alpha.
