For those of you who missed my previous article, I have recently dived into the world of Moonshot Baseball. This is a blockchain based, fantasy baseball game which offers daily contests based on actual MLB games as well as simulated tournaments. It’s really inexpensive and easy to start playing and I strongly recommend it.

Initial tournament announcement in discord

The May Tournament began shortly after I joined the community. This was a simulated tournament against the other members of the community. Normally with a blockchain game I’d expect to be left out without shelling out loads of money, but Melverk, the game commissioner, did not take that approach. Instead they airdropped everyone who needed players enough players to fill a team. They are very generous with the Moonshot Baseballers collection!

Initial batting lineup

As such I was able to put together a somewhat rushed team. I didn’t have as many options as I’d like, but I expected to gain new players throughout the tournament from the daily challenges so I wasn’t worried.

This is my starting team which successfully got me seeded in the Final bracket. It was a fairly undisciplined team which means they had a hard time successfully hitting the ball. I had a few solid members, and a strong starting pitcher, but going in I knew I’d be updating my team throughout the tournament.

Seeding Results

The tournament brackets were determined after a week of games. All these games could have been hand-waved or hidden, but instead we got a video of each. You can watch my team’s games below, and you can find the rest in discord.

Ideally I’d talk about each and every game, but I’m already a month late so I’ll let the videos and the earlier seeding results speak for themselves. The short of it is somehow I ended up seeded as Number 4 in my division for the final bracket.

My batter lineup changed fairly significantly from my first game to my last. While I only swapped out two players, I reorganized my batting order to hopefully be more efficient. On the other hand my pitching did not change at all.

My two substitutions replaced less disciplined batters. Additionally one of these batters was a home run specialist (39%!)

Unfortunately the finals did not end well as I got eliminated by a number 5 seed team game one.

The final score wasn’t terrible, but it made it very clear that my 1 discipline pitcher should not have been pitching two out of three innings.

Fortunately I hadn’t expected to reach the finals,so I wasn’t disappointed by my quick elimination. The tournament gave me an idea how to build a better team and a rough plan for the future. My strongest impression was that I really needed more disciplined. For the next tournament I filled my team with as many high discipline players as I could, regardless of their other stats.

If you want to know how that turned out, you’ll have to read my next article about the June tournament ;)

As always, thanks for reading! Don’t forget to like, comment, and subscribe if you want more Moonshot Baseball posts!
