Tournament 4 Announcement in the Moonshot Discord

Since my after action reports can get a little unwieldy with all the screenshots and videos, and since I’m actually caught up, I wanted to try breaking my Tournament Report into multiple articles. This one will focus on my thought process and team going into the tournament, and I’ll write a separate article (or articles!) for how I actually do.

But before that, for those unfamiliar with Moonshot Baseball:

Moonshot Baseball is a Polygon based Fantasy Baseball game which has daily contests based on actual player performance and monthly (or more) simulated tournaments for the community. To participate in the daily challenges you just need a single 0.01 wETH NFT from Moonshot Baseball collection. This will give you the chance to win wETH prizes AND earn you NFTs from the Moonshot Baserballers collection which can be used in the simulated tournaments. You can learn more in the official discord.

Seeding for the next tournament begins MONDAY JULY 11th.

There is still time to join so check it out!

I have been rapidly growing my collection of Baseballers and hopefully improving my team. For the first tournament I didn’t have much choice, I had to use what I had, but even so I managed to evolve my team before the final bracket began. You can read about it in my previous post.

How my starting lineup changed during Tournament 2 / My first tournament.

I was in a much better place collection-wise for my second tournament (tournament 3), but even so my team improved throughout. My main strategy was to use the highest discipline characters I could. Unfortunately I proceeded to ignore most of the remaining stats and that seriously hurt my performance. You can see the full report here.

My starting team for Tournament 3.

Now I realize there is much more to the strategy than relying on a single stat. I don’t know how everything plays in yet, but Fielding is very important. Having low fielding cost me a couple games due to player errors. Additionally there are bonuses to having a full minor league team but that’s an entirely different topic.

Unless I get some amazing players this weekend, this will be my team when seeding begins on Monday.

I primarily chose higher discipline hitters, and ordered them based on skill, but when choosing between them I looked at the bigger picture. In the last tournament I had trouble getting people to score. My opponent would strike out my batters leaving my players stranded on base. I’m hopeful high home run chance will help there. I expect speed would help as well, but in general I had to choose two out of three of discipline, speed or fielding. Discipline is the easiest to understand, its pretty much a straight 5% increase per point. As I already mentioned, I learned the hard way how important fielding is…

No idea how this team will do at bat, but that’s ok! We can freely change it after each game.

The other important decision was pitching. My pitching collection is much smaller, but still gives me a fair bit of options. When a player is at bat, their plate discipline is pitted against the pitcher’s pitch command to determine who gets control of the hit.

If a player wins, barring an error they are guaranteed at least a base. If the pitcher wins, depending on their stats it could be an out or a base (or even a home run if your pitcher is really unskilled). What this means is that the ONLY reliable way to get an out is to win the at bad roll. I’m definitely of the opinion pitching skill is MORE important than batting.

Secondly, as I’ve mentioned before, fielding is important. Not only did I increase my batter’s fielding but I switched the order of my pitchers so the better fielding pitcher would go first. Yes, those errors left a LARGE impression.

My final concern was the actual pitching breakdown. I chose my players with the least home runs and doubles. No sense giving away free runs if I can help it!

That’s my approach to the upcoming tournament. Once it begins I will also pay close attention to the winning teams to see if they have any memorable strategies.

I’m looking forward to next week! Perhaps I’ll see some of you readers on the field!

As always thanks for reading! Don’t forget to like, comment, and subscribe if you want more Moonshot Baseball posts! Who know what type of articles I’ll post if you don’t!
