The end of The Order left me angry. They had the mandatory cliffhanger, which was fine, but then they added the whole memory wipe BS. I can only assume this was the Grand Magus’s way of showing mercy to the Knights in appreciation of their help. Unless they plan on re-enlisting Jack and Lilith, or using werewolf blood in the future, this was a stupid decision.
We don’t know exactly how the memory wipe works, but it is fairly safe to assume it erases everything related to a specific topic. We can also assume they erased all knowledge of The Order as well as of the Knights. If they didn’t erase the knowledge of The Knights, they would simply regroup, realize something was wrong, and seek revenge.
With respect to Jack, what’s left? His whole life was dedicated to joining The Order and killing his father. Erasing Jack’s knowledge of The Order is the same as erasing his identify. At the end of the season, he was left with no family, no friends, and didn’t even know his name. All that’s left is a werewolf, with nothing to lose, who can blame all his troubles on The Order.
As for the other werewolves, it really depends on what The Order wiped. They have a lot of history together and may find each other again. The real question is, will they remember how to control the wolves?
Which leads me to next season. How will it begin?
Ten Possible Starters:
- Lilith remembers. Its possible the memory restoration spell protected her from future memory alteration. This would be great as it would allow her character to shine as something other than a killer.
- Werewolf attacks. They wiped the Knights’ memories. This means the wolves will react on instinct and hunt evil magicians.
- The Necromancer’s Revenge. The necromancer’s sister is alive. Perhaps she guides the werewolves against The Order.
- New Focus. The series could take an anthology approach and focus on The Order’s next conflict. The story of Jack and the Knights could be over.
- Random Memory Recovery. The necrophone is still somewhere in Jack’s house. We also know that a near death experience allows you to see the ancestral knowledge of the human race. Either of these could lead to Jack regaining his memories.
- Planned Memory Recovery. Jack and the Knights knew that The Order may try and erase their memories. Perhaps they planned some sort of counter to it. Future voicemail/email, carefully written notes, memory recovery trap. Were they really stupid enough not to plan ahead?
- New Werewolf. Someone in The Order could become a werewolf and seek help from the Knights.
- OMG Help! The Order needs help from the Knights once more and restores their memories. This scenario is also the most logical reason why The Order wiped their memories instead of killing them.
- Re-Recruitment. Jack has potential, the blood of the former Grand Magus, and nothing else. As we saw with Lilith, that emptiness led to blind loyalty.
- The Golem. This is unlikely, but the series did establish that Clay was more than a mindless drone. He could play a role in recovering Jack’s memories.
Those are my thoughts so far. What are your predictions? How do you think it will continue?
