Padres Fantasy Baseball

I love fantasy baseball but I’m terrible at it. This is probably because I play whatever players I like regardless of how they are matched. Since I’m pretty much guaranteed to lose anyway, I figured I’d try an experiment for my main team this year. Two days before the season began, I signed up for a yahoo fantasy league and drafted as much of the Padre’s lineup as I could.

I spent much longer than I needed putting my priority list together. Unsurprisingly none of the other teams drafted more than a couple players outside of the top 200 rankings and the majority of the Padres players are outside that range. Additionally, the ones who were better ranked had very low draft percentages. This means I got my entire list without trouble.

For those who are interested, here is my full ranking list. Keep in mind that yahoo fantasy allows for 23 players, 10 batters, 8 pitchers, 5 benched players and once the season starts 4 injured players.

Of course injuries (even if they were expected), and the last minute (also expected) trade threw a wrench into my lineup, but overall my plan was successful. The injuries were easy enough to handle as I could just dig deeper into the roster but unfortunately the uncertainty around trading meant I missed out on RP Taylor Rogers as another team had already drafted him.

My Opening Day Pitcher Performance

As any Padres fans would be aware, two players were almost immediately thrown into the injuries list and there was a major last minute trade.

Going forward I’m going to do my best to match any lineup changes I can, but unfortunately it is much harder to trade in the realm of fantasy baseball than in the real league. Wish me, or should I say The Padres, luck!

Thanks for taking the time to read this. Don’t forget to follow and clap if you want me to keep updating Medium with their progress.
